Core Program
The essential preparation for a smooth transition to high school. This comprehensive course will develop advanced literacy and numeracy skills thereby ensuring your child is well prepared for the challenges of Year 7.
The Year 6 Headstart High School Program is also ideal to ensure your child remains competitive at school. Each lesson contains a half hour dedicated to writing skills followed by 90 minutes each of literacy and numeracy. North Shore Coaching College is well positioned to support your child’s learning journey.
Term 1 is the final opportunity to prepare for Selective School & Scholarship exams!
Course Goals
- Develop advanced literal and inferential comprehensions skills
- Develop problem solving skills
- Develop competency and creativity in writing across a range of text types
- Develop superior spelling skills
- Develop an advanced vocabulary
- Develop grammar, usage and punctuation skills
- Develop advanced knowledge of numeration
- Develop numerical operations
- Develop understandings of percentages, fractions and decimals
- Develop a range of thinking skills (general ability) concepts
- Develop concepts of area, time and measurement using formal and informal units
- Develop concepts of graphing, money, chance and probability
- Develop concepts of shape, position and temperature
- Develop skills and competencies in the scientific method
- Develop knowledge of fundamental science concepts in biology, physics and chemistry
Course Structure
- 4 terms in a year, 10 weeks in a term
- 4 hour lessons per week, during term
- Students attend lessons at their allocated time schedule
- Small class group based
- Experienced educators
